As we come up to the end of our second year of the Hanya House Wellness Collaboration, I’ve been feeling grateful that a special friend (with a wonderful creative talent) gifted us the word ‘Hanya’ when we started this dream.

Hanya is a Shangaan word meaning “alive” and – for us – is a word that has been able to capture the gentle magic of a feeling: A feeling of safety, peace, vitality and fun… a feeling of stepping into our element and striving for connection with ourselves, each other, our communities and the world around us.

And so on a whim – in October – I reached out to local ceramicist and jeweller, Nina Bosch, and asked if she would be willing to create an exclusive piece of jewellery that celebrated the word, Hanya. Knowing how busy she is, I was surprised when Nina said yes. We’ve included some photos below of what Nina has created, together an explanation – in her own words – of how the word “Hanya” inspired her.

“There is a hand-folded fine organic leaf together with a green onyx gem stone imported from Indonesia. The leaf is a symbol of earth, growth, and life and the green onyx stone is the essence of the heart chakra: Clarity, balance, and a sense of groundedness. When combined, the leaf and the green onyx are my expression of harmony with ourselves and nature.”
